Ronny Chieng

and actor. Chieng is currently a Senior Correspondent on The Daily Show, Comedy
Central. He is also the creator and actor of the sitcom Ronny Chieng
International Student. The show premiered on ABC Australia and Comedy Central
Asia in 2017. Chieng was born to a Malaysian Chinese couple in Johor Bahru
(Malaysia). From 1989 to 1994, he resided in Manchester in New Hampshire.
Chieng was a performer at a comedy festival held in Melbourne, Australia in
2013 together with Trevor Noah. Chieng was offered the Daily Show's reporter
role two years after. In July of 2016 Chieng was named one of 10 Comics to be
watching by Variety In October of 2016, Chieng appeared on The Daily Show to
offer his take on Jesse Watters Fox News segment thought to be racist by a
large majority of viewers. Chieng expressed his opinion with a lot of expletive
about the segment of conservative network Fox News. He also visited NewYork
City's Chinatown in which Watters had made fun of the residents. The viral
video was featured by the Washington Post, Slate, and other media publications.
Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout in his youth. Chieng hasn't been able to gain
citizenship or permanent residency status in Australia despite having lived in
Australia for 10 years. Chieng made the joke that he was an apologist for
cynophobia on the 2018 Daily Show. But Chieng later admitted that he's
"100 percent not scared of dogs" in an interview.
