Moss (born February 13 1977) is an ex- American football player. He was an
American footballer who played 14 seasons within the National Football League
(NFL) which included the Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders and the New
England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. Together with Jerry Rice, he is
generally regarded as the most outstanding wide receiver to ever play. He holds
the NFL single-year touchdown reception record (23 in 2007), and the rookie NFL
single season touchdown reception record (17 in 1998). He also ranks 2nd in the
NFL all time regular season touchdown receptions list , with 156. Moss was
famous for his prowess in securing contested catches and the word
"mossed" is now part of football vernacular. After his career in
football, he started working as a studio announcer at ESPN for their Sunday NFL
Countdown program and Monday Night Countdown. Moss was born in Rand, West
Virginia. He attended DuPont High School. It was one of two schools that later
merged into Riverside High School. There Moss excelled in football, basketball
tracks, and many other sports. Randy was also a member of the school's debate
team. Moss was a DuPont Panthers' football player who helped them win
back-to-back state championships, in 1992 and 1993. Moss was a top wide
receiver. He also was a free safety, and punt return. In 1994, he won by the
Kennedy Award as the West Virginia Football Player of the Year. Parade magazine
named him to their All-American high school football teams in the year 1995. In
2009 they named him as one of the 50 most outstanding high school football
players of all-time.
